THE EUROPEAN SPACE AGENCY (ESA)
FUNDED THE PRODUCTION AND THE INSTALLATIONS OF THE EXHIBITION AND PROVIDED ALL THE SATELLITE IMAGES FEATURED IN THE EXHIBITION (COPERNICUS SENTINEL DATA).
The European Space Agency (ESA) is Europe’s gateway to space. It is an inter-governmental organisation with 23 Member States, founded in 1975 with the objective to shape the development of Europe’s space capabilities and ensure that investments in space deliver benefits to the citizens of Europe and the world.
By coordinating the financial and intellectual resources of its members, the Agency can undertake programmes and activities far beyond the scope of any single European country. ESA’s Directorate for the Earth Observation (EO) Programmes is in charge of designing, developing, and operating state-of-the-art EO satellite missions, making observation data available to users worldwide. It cooperates with the European Commission on the Copernicus Programme, co-funding and managing the Copernicus space component, including designing, developing and (partly) operating the Copernicus Sentinel satellites. In addition, ESA promotes the exploitation of space data and undertakes research and development activities related to their use.
